Cricklade Camera Club – Programme – Sep 2024 – Jun 2025
Welcome to our eighth season. If you are new to the club or are checking out what we do, we hope you find this programme full of interesting events. We are always ready to welcome new members, you don’t even have to have a camera, just an interest creating great images. If you would like to find out more do come along to one of the evenings in the Town Hall Annexe, for a guest fee of £6, you’ll receive a warm welcome.
Tuesday 3rd September 2024, 7:30pm – Town Hall Annexe – Members Presentations. A fascinating and entertaining evening featuring 6 members. Some will talk about their successes over the last year, including tips on how to gain Royal Photographic Society distinctions; others will discuss their photographic projects past and future – with plenty of images that were successful (and maybe some that weren’t!)
Wednesday 11th September 2024 – We are invited to join in with bh Photography Club Zoom – Walking the South West Coastal Path by Gary Holpin Photography
Sunday 15th September 2024 (away) – bh Photography Club – Project Support Group. Contact Ian Byers/Anne Eckersley for more information. This group meets on a Sunday every other month to support members and other local photographers with their projects. The projects include those purely for personal satisfaction, RPS Distinctions, and PAGB Awards. Occasionally an experienced judge is invited to come along to give advice.
Tuesday 17th September 2024, 7:30pm – Zoom meeting – Maximising your chance of success in competitions, by Alan & Julie Walker. This talk looks at how to improve individual images for competitions across a wide range of photographic genres. Alan and Julie will look at the capture and how to get it right in the camera plus the necessary postproduction techniques to avoid judge bait. Finally, they will share a brief look at taking photography to the next creative level which is often successful in many competitions.
Tuesday 1st October 2024, 7:30pm – Town Hall Annexe – Demystifying Printing, by Tim Jones of Fotospeed. Fotospeed began life over 35 years ago as a family-run darkroom chemistry and specialised fine art printmaking manufacturer. Fotospeed today supplies a comprehensive range of digital inkjet papers, inks and accessories which they ship globally. Tim will take you through the basics of printing your own photographs at home and the steps you need to take to achieve great prints, including Black and Whites. Tim will also take you through colour management and proofing ideas for your prints using both soft-proofing and his preferred technique of printing test prints. He will also discuss printers and papers to make sure you get the best possible results. Tim has an MA in photography, as well as being an Adobe Photoshop Associate.
Wednesday 9th October 2024 – We are invited to join in with bh Photography Club Zoom – Finding your ‘why’ and composing for meaning by Emily Renier
Tuesday 15th October 2024, 7:30pm – Town Hall Committee Room – Workshop (provisional): Help with mounting prints, Chris Pocock and Shirley Johnson. In this informal workshop Chris and Shirley will demonstrate how they cut mounts and assemble finished printswhether it’s for a competition or just to hang on the wall. There will be the opportunity to get hands-on.

Tuesday 29th October 2024, 7:30pm – Zoom meeting – How much is that doggie in the xxxx? by Lisa Rendall. This Presentation was inspired by Lisa’s career as a dog groomer & professional show-dog handler with over 40 years’ experience in breeding Rough Collies and Bichons. Plus, her unusual take on street photography has helped her to add a new creative twist. With this presentation Lisa hopes to inspire others to take up a new project using different techniques e.g. ICM and playing around with your camera to find your own style. All you need is imagination. She will also run through techniques that have worked for her. Lisa is a Freestyle Creative Photographer, self-taught .

Tuesday 7th January 2025, 7:30pm – Town Hall Annexe – Astrophotography, by Jason Hyde. Jason will take us on a journey tonight and show how he takes night-time images. You don’t need a telescope, it helps, but many of the images can be taken with a long focal length lens (200-300mm) whilst wide-angle nightscapes can add drama to a landscape. Follow him through the rabbit hole and learn how to use a tracking mount, find the most commonly photographed galaxies and nebula, process images with scientific rigour, and still end up with images to be proud of….

Tuesday 21st January 2025, 7:30pm – Town Hall Annexe – Workshop: Post Processing using Lightroom Classic, by Barry McCabe. Barry will cover his method of working with Lightroom, starting with importing RAW images from an SD card to editing for final presentation jpegs or prints. It will be an informal workshop, and he will endeavour to answer any questions throughout the session.

Tuesday 18th February 2025, 7:30pm – Zoom meeting – Looking beyond a single image, by Vanda Ralevska. Vanda will focus on her journey from capturing single images, through creating collections, to working on short and long-term projects. She will explore how working in projects helps you get out of a creative block and find your own personal vision. Vanda will demonstrate how a project-based approach and looking beyond a single image can lead to developing new, exciting ideas that can breathe fresh air into your photographic journey.

Tuesday 1st April 2025, 7:30pm – Town Hall Annexe – Picture in the paper, by Suzie Kirkby CPAGB/AV. “Be there and f8” may be the age old adage for a press snapper but there’s much more to capturing stories in images. The talk relates the challenges as a local newspaper photographer in East Hampshire, West Surrey and West Sussex. Events, sports, portraiture and many other genres all have to be tackled with minimal equipment and always to a tight deadline. From dog shows to airshows, all that was needed to fill those pages.
